The volunteer will be working remotely and provide companionship, support, referrals, community connections and advocacy to adults 55 years and older, to who may feel lonely, home bound and underserved. If you should have interest in giving back to our community, you can make a different by spending your time with someone in need of a friend.

Key Responsibilities / Expectations
  • Provide support with assigned client at least once per week for 1-2 hours per visit
  • Mandated reporting
  • Communicate any issues that may arise immediately to the Program Coordinator
  • Researching community resources to assist client’s needs
Training: Volunteers are required to attend a 3-hour training prior to volunteering.
  • Training includes: an overview of The Older Adult Program, HIPAA (client privacy), Adult Protective Services, and Suicide Prevention.
Background Check: Prior to beginning volunteer work, a Live Scan background check and clearance is required.

Mission Statement

Cal Voices (formerly known as NorCal MHA) is dedicated to improving the lives of residents in the diverse communities of Northern California through advocacy, education, research, and culturally relevant services. All of our programs within the our agency works with individuals and families with mental health challenges to promote wellness and recovery, prevention, and improved access to services and supports.


About Cal Voices (A continuation of NorCal MHA)

In 1946, coalition of mental health patients, mental health service providers, and interested community members began a local Mental Health Association chapter in Sacramento, which is now known as Cal Voices, a continuation of NorCal MHA. For nearly 70 years, Cal Voices has provided mental health consumers with culturally-affirming peer support services, assistance in navigating various human service agencies, and advocacy for consumer-oriented public mental health policies. Currently, Cal Voices provides these services in Amador, Placer, and Sacramento counties in California, and offers technical assistance to other mental health agencies statewide.
