ORGANIZATION: Osseo Area Schools ISD 279- Adult Basic Education

Volunteers needed to provide a warm and welcoming presence to guests coming into Northwest Family Services Center located at 7051 Brooklyn Blvd. in Brooklyn Center. Volunteers determine the organization that the guest is seeking and provides informative directions within the site. The volunteer answers incoming calls on a one-line phone and alerts security if an emergency arises.

Northwest Family Services Center site includes: Osseo Area Schools Enrollment Center and Adult Basic Education Program, CEAP - Community Emergency Assistance Program and Hennepin County Health and Human Services. The Welcome Desk is located on the first level in a handicapped accessible building with an adjoining parking ramp.

If you are a friendly outgoing person willing to temporarily commit to volunteer one - 4- hour shift per week either 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m./ once weekly during Mondays - Fridays beginning January 24th through May 15th, 2020 please contact Marlene Stumpf-Johnson at 763-585-7371 to get registered.

Description

Provides educational programming for adult learners in basic academic skills (reading, math, writing and life skills); English classes (for non-English speaking adults); and basic computer skills for job seekers. Service area includes but is not limiited to: Osseo, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, and Maple Grove areas of the Twin Cities Metro area. Helps adult learners to improve educational and workplace skills to get a job, get a better job or keep a job. Improves economic self-sufficiency and stability. Achieves the skills necessary to enter and succeed in post-secondary education and training.

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • 4 hour commitment from either 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m./once per week (Monday -Friday) from January 24th through May 15th, 2020
  • Capacity to hear guests and communicate directions to them as well as answer guests' questions. Capacity to see well enough to observe the approaching guests or an emergency situation that has come up.
