ORGANIZATION: NYC Parks Stewardship Program

  • 4 people are interested

Volunteer with NYC Parks Stewardship and the Wildlife Conservation Society- New York Aquarium! Volunteers will help prepare beach grass culms (stems) for planting. Before culms are ready to be planted on the dune, they must be processed and packaged in a way to ensure their viability. This process involves removing outer brown sheaths (layers) of old growth to expose the green live portion of the plants as well as removing excess roots and rhizomes. Supplies are provided but volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty, close-toed shoes, and warm layers. They are also encouraged to bring their own water bottles. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. Space is limited and registration is required.
