Make a difference in the day of a senior in South Louisville!
Meals on Wheels is a national organization that provides fully cooked, nutritious meals to homebound and frail seniors in our community. This is the perfect opportunity to do something productive and helpful for those less fortunate. Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, we are delivering meals to more seniors than ever before. Meals mainly go out once a week, on Tuesdays, in 5-packs of frozen meals. Occasionally, we have seniors who need later deliveries, and those routes are completed on Thursdays. Volunteers pick up the boxes at SLCM's office (415 1/2 W. Ashland Ave.) and deliver to 10-14 seniors per route. South Louisville Community Ministry's chapter serves seniors in US ZIP codes 40208, 40209, 40214, and 40215.
Volunteers distributing meals will meet at SLCM's office at 10:30am each Tuesday, or 1:30pm Thursday(as needed). It takes roughly 1-2 hours to deliver all the meals on each route. Volunteers can take a specific route on an ongoing basis, or can be on a substitute list for any available route.

Description
South Louisville Community Ministries (SLCM) has a long history of service to families in the south end of Louisville. We were founded in 1975 by the churches in the area. We began in a small church office and have since expanded with programs that programs that range from a Food Pantry to Emergency Financial Assistance and from Medication Assistance to Meals on Wheels.
Our service area is an area rich in diversity that encompasses all of zip codes 40214, 40215, and 40209, and those families in 40208 who live south of Eastern Parkway. (With the exception of our food pantry which assists families in those zip codes that reside east of Taylor Blvd./New Cut Road only.) Within our boundaries you will find both Churchill Downs and an abundance of Section 8 housing, a vast array of ethnic restaurants and large number of seniors living on fixed-incomes. Here you will discover the beauty of Iroquois Park and the second highest poverty rate in the city (29.1%, double the national average). We serve approximately 2,000 men, women, and children every month, often with multiple and on-going services.
