ORGANIZATION: The West End Museum

The West End Museum, which is run almost entirely by volunteers, is looking for an energetic individual ready to work with the social media team leader (primarily) and the public relations, and programing teams to build a robust social media presence and help to ensure that the museum runs smoothly from day-to-day.

Responsibilities:

- Ensure that the museum is taking full advantage of all appropriate social media platforms

- Craft daily social media postings, event pages, etc.

- Work with the Social Media team to ensure that the museum maintains a consistent and professional public image

- Work with the programming, and PR teams to ensure events are properly publicized


Requirements:

- Writing, communication and organizational skills

- Comfort using at least three (3) of: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Peerspace, Patch, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Snapchat, Foursquare, Survey Monkey, Constant Contact, and willingness to learn more

- Experience with social media strategies, growing a social media following, and/or reaching large audiences is preferred

- Enjoyment developing social media content

- Ability to maintain a daily posting schedule

- Comfort working independently and as part of a team

- Interest in the history and culture of Boston’s West End is a plus

The West End Museum is dedicated to telling the story of Boston’s West End neighborhood. The Museum provides a space for past and present residents and the community; educates the public in history and urbanization; and preserves its material history and culture. The Museum seeks to challenge citizens to take an active role in shaping their communities.

Description

About the West End Museum:

We are a Boston neighborhood museum seeking volunteers interested in the history and culture of the City of Boston, its immigrant era, and urban renewal. The Museum is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of the history and culture of the West End of Boston.

You can expect to find a casual workplace of friendly Volunteers and Staff who are welcoming and eager to engage with the public. A previous knowledge of the neighborhood is not required, but an appreciation of its historical significance is helpful.

The Museum is conveniently located close to the MBTA Science Park/West End Station and North Station. Bowdoin Station is about a 10-minute walk.
