Mission Statement

The Chatham County Council on Aging was founded on July 8, 1974 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the older population of Chatham County. We continue to promote and support independent living, and the physical and mental wellness of older adults and their families through a wide range of programs in partnership with many other community organizations. The Council is committed to helping Chatham be an age-friendly community where our growing older population enjoys opportunities for social and civic engagement, continuous learning, fitness and volunteerism.

Our programs and services include:

• In-home aide
• Home-delivered meals (commonly known as "Meals on Wheels")
• Congregate meals
• Transportation
• Information and Options Counseling
• Senior Center Operations in Pittsboro and Siler City (Both State-Certified Centers of Excellence)
• Wellness and Health
• Family Caregiver Support
• Equipment Donation/Loan Program
• Minor Home Repairs
• Incontinence Supplies
• Emergency Assistance
• And many other services, including Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) to help people with questions about Medicare, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).

The Chatham County Council has earned these distinctions:

• 2016 Humanitarian Award from the West Chatham Branch of the NAACP
• 2017 Chatham Public Health Partner of the Year Award
• 2017 Excellence in Innovation Award from the NC Association of County Commissioners for our collaborative work in housing
• 2018 GSK Impact Award for working every day to address critical health challenges
• 2018 State Ernest B. Messer Award for excelling in addressing the needs of seniors
