ORGANIZATION: DOUGLAS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

  • 3 people are interested

This event raises money for the spay/neuter of our shelter and community animals throughout the year. We could use help setting up, seating sponsors and ticket holders, serving drinks, and cleaning up. We would love for you to become volunteers of the Douglas County Animal Shelter too as we share volunteers year round. Other opportunities are cuddling cats and walking dogs, Pet Pantry, events, and PetSmart adoptions.

About DOUGLAS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

Location:

PO BOX 747, Douglasville, GA 30135, US

Mission Statement

The Douglas County Humane Society is not a shelter nor do we operate one. We work closely with the Douglas County Animal Shelter in Douglas County Georgia and are a support system for pet owners and animal lovers in our community. This society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We want to help as many animals as we can. We can always use volunteers and donations.

Description

We would like to reduce the number of stray dogs and cats in Douglas County, Georgia in order to alleviate the number of adoptions necessary through the Douglas County Animal Shelter plus the reduction in euthanasia. The Douglas County Animal Shelter is within a percentage of being considered a "No Kill Shelter". There will always be behavior related or wellness issues, but we hope to one day see ZERO euthanasia due to lack of space. An educated community in Douglas County where all pets are sterilized and people adopt instead of shopping would be ideal.

Spay/Neuter: We support Douglas County Animal Shelter for sterilization before adoption and trap, neuter, return of cats. We assist the Douglas County community with funding at West GA Spay Neuter Clinic.
Heartworm Treatment of DCAS dogs: We support the Heartworm Treatment of Douglas County Animal Shelter dogs to help reduce barriers to adoptions and assist adopters in treating the HW positive dogs that they adopt.
Pet Pantry: Our goal is to provide temporary pet food assistance to families struggling in this economy to keep their pets. Our pets are vital family members and no one should have to face surrendering their pet due to lack of food. The Pet Pantry helps keep many, many animals away from being sent to rescues or abandoned. We distribute food to the community on the 1st and 3rd Saturday’s of every month from 9-11 AM at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Volunteers will be on-site to help with food requests.
