CCP Tutorial Program
The Volunteer Tutoring Coordinator will help us provide vital academic support to help our students reach their full potential in school and in life!

College and Career Pathways, Inc. (CCP) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that provides academic support, college readiness, college success, and career development programming to students in Grades 9-16 from historically under-served populations in Prince George’s County, MD. The CCP Scholars Program at Northwestern High School provides students with academic support, college readiness, and career development programming. Our afterschool tutorial program falls under the umbrella of our Academic Support Services. We are currently seeking volunteer tutors for our afterschool program. The CCP tutor provides support for a student by supplying practical information, increasing a student’s knowledge of study skills and career opportunities, and by enhancing self-esteem through a supportive and attentive relationship.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide homework help in English, math, science, or social studies, as well in additional subjects that may vary based on the tutors areas of expertise (e.g., Foreign Languages, Art, Music, Business, Engineering, SAT Prep, ACT Prep, AP Exam Prep, etc.)
  2. Guide students through the proper essay-writing process for class assignments, as well as for college and scholarship applications
  3. Help students prepare for tests

Job Expectations

  1. Tutor the student(s) for an amount of time agreed upon between the tutor, CCP staff, and student
  2. Notify CCP Staff if you are unable to honor scheduled tutoring appointments, or if delayed in arriving at the tutoring location
  3. Contact proper College and Career Pathways personnel for special circumstances that may come to your attention

Qualifications

  1. Desire to help children and youth
  2. Belief in the philosophy that all children can achieve academic success
  3. Completion of tutor orientation

Time Commitment and Training

  1. Volunteer orientation from College and Career Pathways.
  2. Commitment to the agreed upon tutoring schedule (we are flexible with tutoring times and can work with your schedule).
  3. Commitment to volunteer for at least one full semester.
  4. Attendance at evaluation and feedback sessions

College and Career Pathways, Inc. (CCP), is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that offers school-site and community-based college access and career exploration services to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout Prince George's County and the greater DC Metro area.

CCP was designed to assist schools and communities by providing supplemental resources and information that can help students prepare for enrollment in postsecondary institutions. CCP has developed research-based college access and career exploration programming designed to ensure that all students reached by the program graduate from high school with a solid plan for achieving their educational and vocational goals. CCP programs fall into one of four areas, including Early Awareness Activities, High School College Access and Career Exploration Services, the CCP Stars Alumni Program, and the CCP Masters Program.

  • Because of the current health crisis, tutors will be able to work with the Tutoring Coordinator to determine which days and times work best for them and their student(s). Tutoring times are flexible, but sessions usually last about one hour.
