Dream Farm Commons is an artist run gallery, exhibition and project space, located at 15th and Webster Streets in Downtown Oakland. We are seeking an intern to contribute to presentation of visual works and social practice projects with a commitment of 6-12 hours per week. ​

About Dream Farm Commons: Dream Farm Commons is a storefront and work loft exhibition and project space committed to an ongoing engagement with the visual, the poetic, the neighborhood and the future. We present new exhibitions every 1-2 months with a focus on sculpture, installation, and social practice projects and are committed to well crafted exhibitions, curatorial integrity, deep visual narratives, critical discourse, the performative, and site specific projects. We regularly activate the exhibitions with artists talks, discourse, films, performances, workshops and meals. Many of our exhibitions and projects focus on radical future thinking; climate crisis; race, identity and empowerment; cultivating a materialist analysis and resistance to late stage capital; neighborhood and gentrification ---but we are always experimental and like when each exhibition looks and feels different from the last.

About this Internship Dream Farm Commons is seeking an intern to assist with our ongoing exhibitions, projects and events and would like to work with someone who resonates with our mission, forms of making and discourse.

Intern responsibilities include:

● small graphic design projects

● assisting with installing and de-installing shows

● exhibition documentation

● social media and publicity

● gallery sitting

● Meeting with exhibiting artists

● Contribute to exhibition themes and projects

● Attending/working openings, First Friday events, and Second Saturday Artist talks

● General gallery/space maintenance tasks, cleaning/tidying/dishwashing/ etc.

We equally encourage interns to propose and execute short-term projects/events of their own design and will encourage curatorial input and participation in exhibition design. This is an unpaid internship but we are committed to creating a learning and professional growth experience for our interns, with voice and thoughts valued and appreciated. Adjustments can be made to meet requirements for school.

Qualities and Qualifications:
● Background or primary interests in art or social practice
● Ongoing interest in engagement with the visual, the poetic, the neighborhood and the future.
● Ability to propose and execute small projects or interest in developing these skills
● Social media proficiency
● Photoshop/ In design skills
● Writing, basic administrative, graphic design and installation proficiency all desirable
● Enrollment in art school preferred but not mandatory
● Ability to climb ladders & stairs, lift paint buckets, etc
● We are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible and have a second story loft
