MitoAction is looking for volunteers to help during our biggest fundraising event of the year and one of Boston's hottest Kentucky Derby events. Over 300 attendees will converge upon Royale Boston to watch a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby, enjoy southern fare, Derby-inspired beverages, silent and live auction, and much, much, more, while supporting MitoAction and the programs and services we provide for families affected by mitochondrial disease.
Volunteer opportunities include:
8:30 am - 10:00 am - Unloading truck at venue
8:30 am - 1:00 pm - Event Set-up
- Unloading van
- Gift bag assembly
- Signage placement
- Silent-Auction Setup
- Decorations - Centerpieces & stage decorations
- Photo Booth Setup
4:00 pm - 6:30 pm - Registration - check-in all guests
6:30 pm - Betting Table Breakdown - Pack up all supplies & move to green room or van
6:30 - 9:30 pm - Auction Runners
- All items need to be taken off the floor and moved downstairs to the registration area as soon as auction closes at 8:30 pm
7:00 pm - 9:45pm - Checkout Runners to assist auction staff with handing auction items to guest as they check-out
9:00 pm - 10:00 pm - Event Takedown
- Disassemble decorations
- Take down photo booth
- Take down signage
- Pack up leftover auction items
- Pack up excess alcohol
- Pack all items into the truck

Mission Statement
MitoAction is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving quality of life for adults and children affected by mitochondrial disease through programs and resources centered around support, education, and advocacy. We strive to increase awareness worldwide about mitochondrial diseases and to empower individuals living with the disease to live as fully as possible while struggling with this chronic and disabling disease.
Description
Based in Boston, MA, MitoAction was incorporated in 2005 in order to fulfill the need for advocacy for patients affected by mitochondrial disease. Since that time, MitoAction has connected patients, caregivers, family members, clinicians and researchers internationally with supportive tools and educational information targeted especially for patients and their families. Each year MitoAction promotes National Mitochondrial Disease Awareness during the third week of September and holds a walk for awareness in the Boston area.
