The People's State of the City needs volunteers to check-in volunteers, press, VIPs and community resources, food distributors, setup, cleanup, parking directors, bike attendants, greeters and presentation directors. Held in and next to the historic First Congregational Church, this event features a community resource fair, transportation options, and a program inside the sanctuary that requires ushers and greeters. A variety of shifts are available beginning with setup at 2pm and ending with cleanup at 8pm. We can accept all volunteers age 16 or older. This is a great chance to meet your neighbors and build community.

To act independently, or in coalition with other movements to achieve for seniors and our community, social and economic justice; a clean sustainable environment; affordable, quality health care; the preservation and expansion of Social Security and Medicare; quality affordable housing; full employment or an adequate income for those unable to work; promote education and activism for world peace by working for the reduction and final elimination of all means of mass destruction (i.e. nuclear, biological, chemical, and hi-tech weapons) and for a transfer of resources from military to human needs.
Description
Founded in 1974, the Long Beach Gray Panthers (LBGP) was formed by a group of residents who were concerned about issues of equity and fairness in their community and the needs of older adults as they age. As the community has aged, limited services have been provided to connect older adults with the resources available to help them age in place successfully and with dignity.
Although the population has aged, funding resources, facilities, and programming have failed to keep pace, just as the need is exploding for services. The lack of planning has created large gaps in connections to services and availability of programs. The Long Beach Gray Panthers are advocates and educators on key Older Adult issues.
