As a Pet Therapy Volunteer you will be assigned to visit patients in your own community. You bring your special skills and special friends to offer love and joy to our Hospice patients and their families. You help make final wishes come true. You and your pet are celebrities!Crowds in long term care facilities actually gather when they hear you might be coming today. But the patient, most of all, looks forward to your visit as they may be bed-bound. Often, you are their hope.
Helping to care for our patients and families is a critical role played by our volunteers. Volunteers in Patient Care and Family Support provide in-home services to patients currently being served by Moments Hospice. Because of the direct patient and family interaction, all of these positions require Patient Care, Family Support, and pet volunteers to go through specialized Patient Care Training. This process teaches you about hospice and terminal illness and helps prepare volunteers to interact with and support our patients and families.
The time commitment for this position is 6-12 hours a month. You will arrange a time with the patient’s caregiver that works best for you and the patient.

Description
Hospice is about living, about giving people access to what they need so they will have the best quality of life during a difficult time. Patients who choose hospice have made the decision, along with their families and doctors, to change cure goals for comfort goals. Hospice believes that through personalized services and a caring community, patients and their loved ones can obtain the necessary preparation for death so that it can be not merely a period of sorrow, but one which gives them deeper understanding of life.
