ORGANIZATION: Safe Place for Youth

  • 1 person is interested

The 2020 Youth count is a super important part of serving un-housed and housing insecure youth in Los Angeles. By surveying youth all throughout the county (our organization is surveying West Los Angeles) we are helping county entities identify the need for funding in for MASSIVE amount of vital programs.

Blitz day is the day of the youth count (which spans 2 weeks) where volunteers, service providers, and county officials focus the majority of their energy into surveying un-housed youth, and it is HUGELY important that we get all of the help we can :)

This is an excellent way to get involved in your community and start to help improve outcomes in the issue of homelessness in your community!

Volunteers who sign up for the youth count will be put onto teams to work shifts based on their availability (there are early morning, mid morning, afternoon, and evening shifts). Those teams are comprised of service providers and staff, and all volunteers will receive the necessary direction and training.

For more details and sign up, please respond to this post :)

About Safe Place for Youth

Location:

2469 Lincoln Blvd., VENICE, CA 90291, US

Mission Statement

To empower young people experiencing homelessness to thrive by providing lasting, community-driven solutions that address racial and social inequity.

Description

It is estimated there are approximately 9.000 homeless youth living in the Los Angeles area, with 100% of them without shelter each night on the Westside of Los Angeles.... Safe Place for Youth believes these harsh realities are unacceptable and we are committed to advocating for these youth and helping them in any way possible. We provide services and support for homeless youth and those who are at risk of becoming homeless by addressing basic human needs through a "safe haven" atmosphere of hope and concern. SPY provides three core areas of service provision; Drop-in Center, Case Management and Street Outreach. The majority of our organization is on a volunteer basis; operating on donations of time, funds and goods.

SPY is dedicated to providing a safe and pleasant environment that will allow youth to relax, escape the dangers of the streets, and just spend some time being themselves. We offer Drop-In hours Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11 am - 5 pm where youth can access case management, pregnancy & parenting, educational & employment and health & dental services, a hot meal, the internet and a variety of art classes. We also have street outreach where we engage in youth on the streets and introduce them to SPY.
