Interested in volunteering with NYC's Department of Sanitation for the Make Compost, Not Trash campaign? Attend a volunteer training to learn how to care for street trees, practice talking points, and hear other tips and tricks from our Curbside Composting Community Outreach team.
This training will include an update on our efforts to increase participation in curbside composting so far, along with sign-up opportunities for upcoming events. Free t-shirts will be distributed to all who attend!
Light snacks and water will be provided. Space is limited and RSVPs are required.
Thank you for your support! With your help, we can make this campaign a success and get NYC that much closer to a sustainable future.

Mission Statement
We are working towards all residents having access to either our Curbside Compost services or convenient neighborhood drop-offs. As of January 2018 the compost program serves 3.3 million residents in all five boroughs with curbside compost service. The program also works with apartment building managers to bring our services to high-rise apartment buildings and residents living on commercial blocks. Keep an eye out for an orange t-shirt that says Make Compost, Not Trash and come say hi!
Description
Compost collection is the NYC Department of Sanitation’s curbside recycling service for food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard waste. Just like traditional recycling of paper, cardboard, metal, glass and plastic, residents separate these items and put them in brown bins that Sanitation provides. These organics are collected weekly and turned into compost and clean energy.
Big Reuse has partnered with DSNY to conduct outreach for the rollout of this new service. Our amazing team of Outreach Associates work in the streets throughout the five boroughs. We speak with residents about compost collection in order to increase resident participation rates, reduce contamination rates, and compile feedback in order to better acclimate the program to the needs of our city. Our team partners with local community groups to better spread the word at events and meetings. We are always looking for new partnerships! If you would like to have us attend your next function, please email us at ceorganics@bigreuse.org.
