Wilkes Creek Headwaters contains the springs that feed the only free flowing stream in the city that still enters the Columbia Slough. Restoring headwaters habitat, the habitat at the source of a river or stream, is a key part of the waterway restoration process. Formerly a hazelnut orchard and holly farm, volunteer restoration efforts have been focused on enhancing the already existing Western red cedar forest, and adding native trees as well as shrub and forb understory to the rest of this park.

This event runs rain or shine! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. Snacks, tools, training and gloves will be provided. This event is family-friendly, but children under 14 must be supervised by an adult. Registration for this event is requested.

Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for site accessibility information: rachel.walsh@columbiaslough.org.

Accessibility: The work site is about 1/4 mile from our meeting site. The trail is part grass, part gravel. The work site itself is wooded and uneven. There are no restrooms or shelters on site. We will have one porta-potty available for use. Please feel welcome to contact us to talk more about this site and its amenities.

Meet at NE 154th & Fremont. From Sandy Blvd., turn south onto NE 154th. Parking is along the street; please do not block neighbors’ driveways.
Tri-met bus #12 (NE 154th & Sandy Blvd. stop). Walk south on NE 154th for ΒΌ mile.
