Did you know the Lincoln Public Library has an Adult Literacy Program? Have you ever thought about becoming a tutor? The Lincoln Public Library Adult Literacy Program would love to have you!

Tutoring is an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of adults and their families. Whether it is help in reading, writing, math, or even getting a GED, the goal of the Adult Literacy Program is to create an opportunity for individuals to receive one-on-one tutoring.

Volunteer tutors must:

  • Be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently and clearly
  • Possess patience, flexibility, and excellent oral communication
  • Be 18 years or age or older
  • Clear a Live Scan (fingerprinting/background check)
  • Be reliable and punctual in order to fulfill volunteer commitment
No previous tutoring or teaching experience is required. Training and all materials are provided.

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun. We ask that you be hard-working, observant with an attention to detail, and be willing to commit to volunteering on a regular basis.
