As a large green space - over 640 acres! - where two bodies of water meet - Lake Sammamish and the Sammamish River - Marymoor Park has over seven different habitat types and is a great place for birds and other wildlife. Since 2006, the Eastside Audubon Society has partnered with King County to act as steward for over 40 acres of natural areas in the park, known as the Bird Loop Natural Area. Every month, we work to restore habitat by removing invasive species, planting native species, and mulching the native plants to give them a good start. If getting outside and doing a little physical labor to help the environment is what you look for in a volunteer opportunity, then this event is a good fit! (Plus, sometimes we see some pretty cool birds).

The event is from 9:00am to noon. We meet in Marymoor Park, Redmond WA, by the kiosk in Parking Lot G. When you arrive, please come to the table by the kiosk to sign-in and get a free parking pass.

Tools and gloves are provided - but feel free to bring your own pair of work gloves. We work rain or shine so wear clothing that is weather appropriate, will hold up to physical labor, and okay to get dirty. We recommend thick pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Closed-toed shoes are essential. Please bring a water bottle and snacks to stay hydrated and energized!

Events start with a quick orientation on tasks and there is usually a short walk to the work site. Work tasks include, but are not limited to: pulling invasive species, planting native species, and spreading mulch. We trust volunteers to take breaks as needed - the nearest restrooms are the two portable toilets located in the northwest section of Parking Lot G. At 11:45am we break to put away tools. Once tools are put away, we can sign any paperwork for tracking community service hours.

We encourage adults to volunteer with their youth, however, youth volunteers age 12 or at a middle school/junior high level and up may participate without an adult present. This participation is dependent on the ability of the youth to act responsibly and will be evaluated on a case by case basis. We reserve the right to ask that adults attend the event with their youth if their child needs extra support. All volunteers under 18 participating without an adult must bring a completed youth waiver form found here (https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a6390338a02c77bf05da4ab/t/5e0fb7837d1783180d812d59/1578088324639/YouthWaiver.pdf).
