Farm Animal Veterinarian Consultant

The Good Life Refuge

The Good Life Refuge believes that animals deserve to be seen as sentient beings. They deserve respect, love and the best treatment and care possible. Our mission is to provide refuge for abused, neglected and at-risk animals, especially farm animals.

Our goals are to provide excellence in care, species appropriate nutrition and housing, and a loving and nurturing environment with mental stimulation and enrichment. Animals that are considered non-adoptable will take residency at the sanctuary and for adoptable animals we will find excellent homes. We are also dedicated to inspire others to a more balanced and compassionate lifestyle by outreach and advocacy.

Position: Farm Animal Veterinarian Consultant (virtual/phone and video consultation)

Website: https://www.goodliferefuge.org/

Location: Duties would be performed via phone or video call with staff at the GLR.

Description:

Currently, the GLR does not have an on-site licensed Farm and/or Avian Animal Veterinarian for our 55 animal residents. The Veterinarian Consultant provides qualified medical advice and counsel to our on-site staff at the GLR. Depending on the medical issues that arise this can be done on-site, via phone or video call. The Veterinarian Consultant helps to triage emergency medical needs at the sanctuary and helps to diagnose medical conditions along with recommending treatment options and plans. Your counsel can help to provide improved care, reduce medical costs and assist in critical decision making for optimum care of our animal residents. Additionally, it would significantly improve the outcome in life threatening emergencies when no veterinarian services are available and time is of the essence.

Requirements:

  • A Veterinary License in good standing.
  • 10+ years’ experience working with farm animals as a large animal, small animal, and/or avian specialist.
  • Comfort with and ability to develop expertise working with all species including goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese.
  • Strong skills in conventional medicine and diagnostics.
