50+ vintage trolleys. 100+ years of history. Countless moments of fun.
This February, you’re invited to participate in our New Operator Training! This hands-on course will teach you how to operate our trolleys and start your process to qualify as a museum operator.
As a PTM operator, you’ll have the opportunity to treat visitors to an exciting journey back in time as they ride along our two-mile track on the restored trolleys in our collection. You’ll also have the chance to connect with our community of volunteers who share a passion for trolleys, history, and education.
Class will be held on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, from 9:00 to approximately 4:00pm each day. Attendance is required on both days. Please bring a copy of your driver's license and a lunch. In order to complete training, new operators must also schedule a day of additional training as well as 15 days of student operation. Scheduling for these days, along with the scheduling for all your operating days, is completely flexible.
In addition to confirming your registration here, you will also need to confirm your attendance by filling out the form on our New Operator Training page, linked here: https://pa-trolley.org/event/new-ops-training/
Volunteer operators will also be required to become a member of the museum and provide their PA Clearances per PA State Law. For more information about these requirements, please see the above link.
If you would like to get involved but cannot make it, please email mmeer@patrolley.org to be informed of future classes and opportunities.
**All Trolley Operators must be 18+ to operate for the public and 14+ to take this course. After the training course, passing of a written and practical operator exam is required**

Mission Statement
The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum's mission is to communicate the story of Pennsylvania's Trolley Era to a diverse audience through the preservation, interpretation, and use of its collection of electric railway and railroad equipment, associated artifacts and photo/document archives, and to ensure that its visitors have an enjoyable and rewarding educational experience.
Description
The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum has evolved over the past 50 years from a handful of volunteers and a few trolleys to over 600 members and approximately 50 trolleys preserved at its museum in Washington, Pennsylvania. Visitors get a unique opportunity to actually experience the Trolley Era first hand by riding the Museum's beautifully restored streetcars for a scenic four-mile ride.
At our museum, volunteers of all ages work to preserve and share transportation history through trolley operation, educational tours, and maintenance and restoration work with our collections. We are also looking for volunteers with a variety of interests to help with special events and a wide range of museum operations. Anyone with a passion for trolleys, regional history, or simply serving one's community is welcome to join us!
