The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) seeks adult volunteers (age 21+) to serve as tutors to Stamford Public Schools HIGH SCHOOL Student-Athletes for 2-4 hours per month. High need subjects: math, reading, writing.
After-school tutoring sessions take place at Stamford and Westhill High Schools. You may select the site and days of the month that work best for your schedule. A SPEF Program Coordinator is on-site to support you and supervise students. Previous teaching/tutoring experience not required; however, experience/comfort working with high school students and guiding students through assignments preferred.
Volunteers must consent to a background check. SPEF provides onboarding/training.

The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) is to elevate student success by delivering educational programs and solutions that promote equitable access to quality public education in Stamford.
Description
Founded in 1996, SPEF has remained steadfast in our commitment to foster relationships within the school district, corporate community, and city of Stamford to support and strengthen the public education system with funding, programming, and volunteers. SPEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of local residents, professionals, and community members who assist in building these relationships and ensure our programs and services meet the needs of Stamford public school students and families.
Our non-profit agency serves the richly diverse population of students and families in Stamford’s 21 public schools. As reported in the district’s most recent annual report, 45% of its student identify as Hispanic, 30% as White, 15% as Black, 7% as Asian, and 3% as other. Of these 16,500 students, 59% are economically disadvantaged, with 71 languages spoken at home. 14% are English Language Learners.
