Mentoring
H3 (Heart, Hand & Head) is Peter Paul’s signature mentoring program in collaboration with MENTOR Virginia. We connect a responsible adult from the greater Richmond area with a Peter Paul student to foster a consistent relationship between student and mentor. The expectation is that a caring adult provides acceptance, support, encouragement, guidance, and concrete assistance to promote healthy youth development and academic success.

Mentors meet one-on-one at either our Coleman, Fairfield, or George Mason Promise Centers and visit with their mentee once a week for an hour, for at least two years. There are also opportunities for students and mentors to meet on weekends, enjoying Peter Paul field trips and sponsored activities. Mentors can choose to become community based mentors after one year of on-site mentoring with a student. Community based mentors can take their mentee off-site to activities throughout the Richmond metro area outside of regular Peter Paul programming.

***While English is our only language requirement, we have a present need for individuals fluent in French and/or Swahili***

Peter Paul is an outreach and community center serving Church Hill and neighboring communities in Richmond’s East End. Founded in 1979, it is the oldest community-based agency continually serving Church Hill children and families. Peter Paul gives children a safe, consistent, structured, and loving environment in which to thrive, where staff and volunteers establish long-term relationships of trust and support for the children and their families. In addition to Youth Programs, Peter Paul’s Community Programs are an integral part of life in Richmond’s East End.

Peter Paul's facilities (Promise Centers) include one central building and four satellite sites: Fairfield Court, George Mason, Bellevue, and Chimborazo Elementary Schools. Volunteer opportunities are available year round! If you would like to volunteer with us but do not see an active listing please contact a member of our volunteer department; we are ALWAYS looking for a helping hand!
