A volunteer opportunity for a well-experienced and people-oriented individual with tech support and information technology knowledge and skills. Ideal for a retired or semi-retired volunteer, as tasks are event driven and need schedule flexibility.

Estimated time required: 5-10 hours a month. Duties performed at Museum sites in Palo Alto and San Carlos, if needed. Some tasks might be performed from home.

Reports to Executive Director

Background check required.

Responsibilities

Assist with planning, installation, administration, configuration and maintenance of Museum’s computer systems and networks.

Install/support computers used in Museum exhibits and events.

Administer and support email accounts (about 10)

Provide technical interface and technical point of contact to ISP, hosting sites, cloud accounts.

Maintain records of accounts, passwords, computer inventory and configuration: provide copies of same to Executive Director.

Advise and inform staff and Board about technical issues, cybersecurity issues and workable solutions for problems and issues as perceived or as requested.

Train staff and volunteers in use and operation of equipment and systems as requested.

Description

Founded in 1985, the Museum of American Heritage opened its doors as a public museum in 1990. The museum preserves and presents the evolution of American invention, with collections that focus on Nineteenth and early Twentieth century mechanical and electrical devices. Housed in an historic 1907 residence in downtown Palo Alto, the museum features permanent exhibits including a kitchen, doctor's office, general store, and print shop. Two main galleries show three special theme exhibits annually. A 1500 square foot Learning Center provides space for meetings, lectures, classes, and events. The Museum is surrounded by historic gardens.The Museum is a non-profit corporation and is supported solely by memberships, donations, grants and class fees. Admission to the Museum is free.
