Red Shoe Crew is a student-led outreach program that promotes leadership, empathy and community. Students learn how they can provide support to every family at Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Visit our website for more info: https://rmhcsd.org/red-shoe-crew/

This free program which is usually 2-3 days and is customizable. It's great for a classroom project or student council. There are several optional inclusions including an assembly, activities, field trip, etc. The program takes place on school campus.

Participation is straight forward and our goal is to create an opportunity for students and their families to learn about our services, have opportunities to practice empathy, kindness and leadership, and to gather donations for the House.

Every donation collected gives families a place to escape the uncertainty and stress of the hospital
for a moment, for a meal, for a nap or a shower. Just steps away from their child’s hospital bedside, there is comfort, vital care, and rest for families in great need.

Mission: Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a "home-away-from-home" for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals.

Mission Statement

Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a "home away from home" for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals.

Description

At San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House, we know that children need their parents to be strong. We provide an essential "home away from home" where families may take care of their own basic needs while remaining just minutes from their child's hospital bedside. Research shows that when families stay close to their hospitalized child, the child heals faster and the family copes better. This year, we’ll house over 1,500 families, providing meals, computer access, laundry and exercise facilities, and much more, all in an environment where families may connect with others who understand what they’re going through. Depending on their child’s condition, families may stay at our House for days, weeks, or even months at a time.
