Are you passionate about helping others going through difficult times? Do you consider yourself to be a good listener? Response is seeking volunteer crisis counselors and will offer a free training program to those interested in becoming the caring voice on the other end of the phone or online chat.

No experience is necessary, only a sincere willingness to learn and grow and the ability to make a one-year commitment of four hours a week is required. Training for all programs include lecture, role-play exercises, and private and group supervision.
We are always looking for counselors bilingual in Spanish and English.

**Applicants from the Long Island area looked at first in our screening process**

Response volunteer crisis counselor training consists of two parts.
Part I of our training consists of approximately 12 hours of presentations and skill-building activities, offered remotely through Microsoft Teams in September 2023. You need strong Wifi and a laptop/computer with working camera, training is over video-chat.

Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
When: 6:00pm-9:00pm
Dates: 09/05, 09/07, 09/12, 09/14

To be considered:
Fill out our Volunteer Application here: www.responsecrisiscenter.org/volunteer

Please be aware that if you are selected to continue with Part II of Response's training, you will be paired with a trainer for approximately ten weeks during which you will receive hands-on experience and training on a hotline training shift of 4 hours a week, which will be done remotely.

During this period, there also will be two hour workshops held via Microsoft Teams weekly that compliment trainees' learning on the lines. After completing classroom & office training, we ask for a year's commitment of one four-hour shift per week. We will not provide our address unless prospective volunteers have been accepted into Part II. Our office is located in Suffolk County, NY and for those who wish to volunteer in the office when we are able to re-open to counselors, all volunteers must have reliable transportation. However, due to the pandemic, there also is the option to work remotely from home temporarily as well until the office fully reopens.

Those interested in attending the upcoming training can register now to reserve their spot by completing the online volunteer application, which can be found here: www.responsecrisiscenter.org/volunteer. Registration is pending until an application is complete and verification is conducted.

Please RSVP by Tuesday, August 22nd 2023, as spots are limited.

If you have questions, please contact: Rachel Koerner, M.Ed. Assistant Director of Crisis Services and Operation rrkoerner@responsecrisiscenter.org or +1 (631) 751-7620, ext. 205.
