Are you passionate about helping others going through difficult times? Do you consider yourself to be a good listener? Response is seeking volunteer crisis counselors and will offer a free training program to those interested in becoming the caring voice on the other end of the phone or online chat. No experience is necessary, only a sincere willingness to learn and grow and the ability to make a one-year commitment of four hours a week is required. Training for all programs include lecture, role-playing exercises, and private and group supervision. College credit is provided for those attending undergraduate four year colleges. We are always looking for counselor bilingual in Spanish and English.

Response volunteer crisis counselor training consist of two parts. Part I of our training consists of approximately 12 hours of presentations and skill-building activities. We will be having Part I of training remotely through either Zoom or Microsoft Teams in October, so it will be broken up weekly into two-hour workshops per week. We are offering two options, one on weekdays and one on weekends. Our weekday workshops will be held from 2:30pm-4:30 pm, on Monday, October 5 th; Tuesday, October 13 th; Monday, October 19 th; & Monday, October 26 th . However, we also will be having a weekend training option for those who are not able to attend those above dates. The proposed dates would be Saturday, October 3, Saturday, October 10; Saturday, October 17 th, & Saturday, October 24 th from 10AM-12 PM.

Please be aware that if you are selected to continue with Part II of Response's training, you will be paired with an office trainer for approximately ten weeks during which you will receive hands-on experience and training on a hotline training shift of 4 hours a week, which will be done remotely. During this period, there also will be two hour workshops held via Zoom or Microsoft Teams weekly that compliment trainees' learning on the lines. After completing classroom & office training, we ask for a year's commitment of one four-hour shift per week. We will not provide our address unless prospective volunteers have been accepted into Part II. Please our office is located in Suffolk County, NY and for those who wish to volunteer in the office when we are able to re-open to counselors, all volunteers must have reliable transportation. However, due to the pandemic, there also is the option to work remotely from home temporarily as well until the office fully reopens.

Those interested in attending the upcoming training can register now to reserve their spot by completing the online volunteer application, which can be found here: www.responsecrisiscenter.org/volunteer. Registration is pending until an application is complete and verification is conducted.

Please RSVP by October 1st. Spots are limited.
