Pizza Farm is an educational program designed to expose urban youth to good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, and Georgia's agriculture. The Pizza Farm consists of seven stations that each represent the various parts of a pizza and showcase pizza's connection to Georgia agriculture. Exposing urban youth to Georgia agriculture and emphasizing the importance of healthy lifestyles and its role in reducing childhood obesity.
Each school has the option to attend on Wednesday, March 25th or Thursday, March 26th. The field trip will last approximately two (2) hours. This is the estimated time it will take for classes to visit each station and experience our interactive areas.
The actual program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. When students arrive, they will be divided into small groups ranging from 20-25 students. The students will then rotate through each station with the guidance of a volunteer. Students will spend approximately 10-15 minutes at each station.
Lunch will be provided on both days for all volunteers. In addition, those driving from Extension offices 50 miles or greater will be reimbursed for one day of travel. However, carpooling and county vehicle use is encouraged as funds are limited.
