Mission Statement
An alternative library, reading room, and infoshop. Our mission is to provide community access to information and points of view that are under-reported or distorted in mainstream media.
Description
Our Mission
The Civic Media Center & Library, Inc., founded in October of 1993, is an alternative library, reading room, and infoshop. The Civic Media Center is a community-based non-profit organization that serves as a resource for progressive grassroots activism and promotes public awareness in Alachua County and North Central Florida.
Our LibraryThe CMC's issue-oriented collection is large and diverse: several thousand books, periodicals, zines, and hundreds of CDs and DVDs. The Center also has public computers with Internet access and a free wireless connection. Memberships are available for $10-$50 per year. Books from our collection may be checked out for a month at a time and DVDs for two weeks.
CommunityThe CMC provides a place for meetings and events for groups that are working for social justice. The CMC connects the community to a large collection of alternative materials, as well as people, organizations, and events. We host "first-hand history" discussions, progressive speakers, film screenings, concerts, and other events.
