Atlanta Habitat for Humanity transforms communities by acting as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization through education, innovative development, partnerships, and long-term relationships with families. Our ReStore Orientation must be completed before volunteering at our ReStore. Our orientation is approximately 1 hour and includes a tour of our facilities. After attending an orientation, volunteers are eligible to volunteer through one of the following capacities at our ReStore.

Service Squad: Help ReStore operations by showing off great donations through merchandising and creating creative displays, greeting customers and more.

Movers and Shakers: Hit the road and help with donation pickups or stay in-house and work with staff on projects that require heavy lifting and moving.

Deconstruction Services: Join our team of skilled handy-people in dismantling and salvaging donated building materials from homes.

For more information, please visit our website: www.atlantahabitat.org/restorevolunteer/

*Please note, volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore Orientation must be completed before volunteering.

Mission Statement

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity transforms communities by acting as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization through education, innovative development, partnerships, and long term relationships with families.

Description

Since 1983, Atlanta Habitat has built more than 1,450 homes in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, housing approximately 5,000 individual family members.

Atlanta Habitat spends approximately 85 cents of every dollar on construction and homeowner programs and services.

Families must qualify to purchase an Atlanta Habitat home by being a first time homebuyer, having a household of 2-8 people, proving steady income and good credit, and having lived or worked in the City of Atlanta or surrounding counties for at least one year. Atlanta Habitat builds with families who are unable to purchase homes on the open market because their incomes- typically 30-50% of area median- do not qualify them for traditional financing.

Homebuyers lease their houses for the first year, during which they are required to contribute 250 hours of "sweat equity" on their home and others, make timely payments, care for the property, and attend 12 Homeowner Education classes through Atlanta Habitat.

After this lease period, homebuyers assume a 25-30 year no profit, no interest mortgage. Average monthly payments include property taxes, pest control, homeowner's insurance, and a maintenance savings account.

Mortgage payments from current Homeowners go directly to furthering our mission.
