Help Children Improve Their Reading Skills
Do you enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of elementary age children? Do you like working with children in a one-on-one setting? If you answered yes, then we are looking for you. The Rock Valley Rotary Foster Grandparent Program has opportunities at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Elementary in Hartley for caring and loving individuals over 55 to work with elementary students who are reading below the proficient level.
You will be a vital and integral part of the classroom, and will focus your energy on one-on-one tutoring in reading and other topics. Some activities may include reading to the child, listening to the child read to you, phonics tutoring, and word recognition and survival words exercises. Your time and love will be appreciated by the children and teacher alike, and you will be known as Grandma or Grandpa. Hugs will be abundant. You will also attend a monthly in-service training session with other Foster Grandparents where you will have opportunities to socialize and network, and discuss issues or concerns. Each month a new topic will be presented in an area that will help you in your work as a Foster Grandparent
