ORGANIZATION: Inland Empire United Way

Hunger does not take a weekend off.

1 in 4 children in this region live in poverty and are at risk of going to bed hungry, and more than half of the children in public schools within the Inland Empire United Way’s service area are enrolled in the federal free and reduced meal program at their schools. Research shows that when kids are well nourished, they can focus on learning and development, which creates a world of possibility. Kids Pack provides a backpack of food to more than 1,800 homeless and very low income children each weekend. Children in our Kids Pack program have consistently shown improvement in their performance at school, including better grades, behavior, participation, and attendance. For more information, click here.

Volunteers are needed to accurately sort, count, and inventory Kids Packs so that each child has food to eat over the weekend. Volunteers will be responsible for:

  • Accurately sorting packs of food into each bin
  • Carefully counting out packs of food and ensure that correct amounts are in each bin

This volunteer opportunity requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail as each pack of food goes to a child in need. Volunteers will asked to be lift, bend, and squat large bins of food weighing up to 30lbs. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to participate in this opportunity.
