Do you have a way with words? Love movies and passionate about women empowerment?

Film, art, and culture can be influential mediums when challenging socially constructed and outdated perceptions of gender roles. The China Women's Film Festival provides a space for international and Chinese filmmakers and artists to present their work that highlights the discrimination that women and the LGBTQ+ community faces around the world from a wide range of perspectives.

Work on film subtitles or assist international guests at the festival. Translators generally translate one film and proofread an additional film.

BENEFITS TO VOLUNTEERS

  • Certificate of volunteer service: This can help you meet school requirements for volunteer work.
  • Festival Pass: Volunteers are given a film festival pass, so that they may attend film screenings

Mission Statement

Tell stories about women made by women

Description

The Crossroads Centre was established in 2003 as a local Chinese social enterprise based in Hong Kong and Beijing. It aims to raise awareness of the many issues that confront women and other marginalized communities in China and around the world through the mediums of film and art. In addition to hosting an annual China Women’s Film Festival and 1905 International Human Rights Film Festival, the Crossroads Centre organizes art exhibitions, cultural forums, and workshops to challenge socially constructed and outdated perceptions of gender roles. We hope that these events can serve as a platform for female activists, academics and artists to present their work and begin an open discussion among the Chinese community about the multitude of challenges facing women to this day and the importance of combating them.
