Adelante Hispanic Achievers

Prepare students for college and careers through intensive individual and group support for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students are paired with volunteers from the community that are professionals that have gone through the college application process. Volunteers attend monthly meetings with the College Corps group and stay in communication once a week with their students.

Mission Statement

To provide opportunities for Hispanic youth and their families to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to function cross-culturally and to contribute to society as informed and pro-active citizens.

Description

We help students with educational, personal, social, and cultural growth. Our target population includes both U.S. born and recent immigrant and refugee youth from Louisville's Hispanic community.

Adelante Programs:

  • Mentoring & Enrichment: weekly presentations, workshops and field trips which provide academic support, life skills development, and career opportunities for students and families.
  • After School Tutoring and Homework Help: offered on Wednesdays at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Thursdays at Olmsted Academy North
  • Parent Involvement: quarterly workshops and ongoing parent support.
  • College Readiness: study skills, ACT preparation, shadowing opportunities, summer "bridge" programs, university visits.
