All American Assistance Dogs is looking for an experienced part-time dog trainer to work with veterans and their service dogs-in-training. Training is one-on-on with a veteran and their dog or in small groups. Training puppies obedience and life awareness task training and veteran/service dog teams needing to learn additional service tasks. Since the veterans we serve have PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and other neurological conditions, the trainer must have some training or life experience in communicating with individuals who have these or similar conditions.

Training sessions are conducted weekly at Tacoma or similar public place. The trainer will also be asked to conduct temperament tests for puppies in a litter being considered for adoption. Temperament testing is also required for dogs owned by veterans they propose to have trained.

AKC trainer and Canine Good Citizen evaluator certification is preferred. The trainer will be paid for training time.

All American Assistance Dogs is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, or similar neurological conditions at no charge to the veteran. More information about our organization can be found at www.aaadogs.org.

All American Assistance Dogs provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or similar at virtually no charge. Our service area is western Washington state. We are an all-volunteer organization and rely on volunteers to help us find veterans, find puppies and foster puppies until they are ready to move to the veteran's home. The dogs may provide other support for the veteran, in addition to PTSD, TBI, or similar which may include seizures, mobility problems and others.

  • Training is usually 4-6 hours a week on various days and locations. Additional time required to travel to/from training locations and to document all progress and training times.
  • AKC Trainer and Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator preferred. Experience with training for and evaluating for Public Access Test (PAT) desired along with service dog specific task training
