All American Assistance Dogs is looking for an experienced part-time dog trainer to work with veterans and their service dogs-in-training. Training is one-on-on with a veteran and their dog or in small groups. Training puppies obedience and life awareness task training and veteran/service dog teams needing to learn additional service tasks. Since the veterans we serve have PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and other neurological conditions, the trainer must have some training or life experience in communicating with individuals who have these or similar conditions.
Training sessions are conducted weekly at Tacoma or similar public place. The trainer will also be asked to conduct temperament tests for puppies in a litter being considered for adoption. Temperament testing is also required for dogs owned by veterans they propose to have trained.
AKC trainer and Canine Good Citizen evaluator certification is preferred. The trainer will be paid for training time.
All American Assistance Dogs is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, or similar neurological conditions at no charge to the veteran. More information about our organization can be found at www.aaadogs.org.
