The Longest Day

June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month. During that month, the Alzheimer's Association encourages people across the world to stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer's through an event called The Longest Day.

The Longest Day is the day with the most light - the summer solstice. And it's the day the Alzheimer's Association calls on everyone to fight Alzheimer's disease by raising funds and awareness for care, support and research.

Participants get involved because their lives, or the lives of their loved ones, have been touched by Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. Participants choose an activity to do on or around the summer solstice. Activities may vary by what your hobby is or a favorite activity of your loved one with the disease. Golf, a party, a hike, a cookout, a game night or craft social are examples of events, Choose the date, time and invite your friends and family to join you.

This event of the Alzheimer's Association needs help growing in Wisconsin. Can you help? We are looking for people to join our planning committee to outreach out in the community, connect with local media, post on social media as well as host an event.

The committee meets once a month, January - July, meeting both in person and remotely by conference call. If you like to connect with others, have fun and support the work of the Alzheimer's Association, we hope you'll consider this opportunity. Thank you!

Mission Statement

To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

Description

In 1979, Jerome H. Stone and representatives from several family support groups met with the National Institute on Aging to explore the value of a national, independent, nonprofit organization to complement federal efforts surrounding Alzheimer's disease. That meeting resulted in the April 10, 1980, formation of the Alzheimer's Association with Mr. Stone as founding president.

Today, the Association reaches millions of people affected by Alzheimer’s across the globe through our national office and chapters in communities nationwide. We are the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
