Volunteering in Summer Camp with the Greentrike Staff at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma is a fun and helpful way to assist at a non-profit organization while gaining experience in an informal learning setting, earn school credit, or just to have a great time while helping the campers in discovering and celebrating their "spark" during the summer months. If you enjoy working with children and exploring art, cooking, or gets silly with science, then there is a summer camp that will ignite that spark!

  • We are in need of 1-2 Volunteers at each camp to assist the instructor and the campers. Tasks include but not limited to assistance with set-up/clean-up, activity preparation, and implementation and participation. Number of Volunteer Spots Available is based on camper enrollment number and is subject to change

Children’s Museum Campus (Monday - Thursday) 1501 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402

  • Summer camps vary in theme each week.
  • Volunteer Time is about a half hour before and after scheduled camp time. This varies from 8:30a-12:30p or 8:30am-3:45p depending on the week. The instructor of the week will keep you posted on any changes.
  • Summer camp campers are either attending the Toddler Camp for 2-3 year olds, Preschool Camp for 3-6 year olds or School Age learners for 5-9 year old. Children of all abilities are encouraged to participate.
  • We believe children are: leaders, creative, capable, compassionate, inquisitive, and authentic. Greentrike educators nurture children, help ignite their individual sparks for learning and play, foster a strong learning community, and encourage playful explorations that honor the whole child. Two Greentrike educators facilitate each camp class.

Greentrike Camps honor children’s curiosity, nurture creativity, and spark imagination! Each week features a fusion of art, science, engineering, storytelling, and adventure, appealing to individual interests and building community. Camps are designed as collaborative learning experiences for toddlers ages 2-3 years old (summer only), preschoolers ages 3-5 years old, and school age learners ages 5-9 years old.

If you are a minimum age of entering 9th Grade and interested please review the Summer Camp Schedule https://www.greentrike.org/camp to taking in account the date and the weekly theme, then fill out and return a full Volunteer Application https://greentrike.org/about/volunteer to Jen McDonald, Volunteer Coordinator jmcdonald@greentrike.org

Description

Greentrike is a nonprofit that advocates for and models equitable access to playful experiences for children, youth, and families because play is essential for learning, joy, and a thriving community.

Greentrike powers museums, programs, and initiatives honoring children, youth, and families in Pierce County. Founded as the Children’s Museum of Tacoma in 1985, the organization later transitioned into Greentrike in 2019 after growth that made the organization more than a museum.

Today, Greentrike powers the Children’s Museums of Tacoma and at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, featuring a first-in-kind donation-based admission model known as Pay As You Will. Greentrike champions play through innovative programs like Preschool Powered by Play, Play to Learn, and Virtual Play to Learn. Greentrike carries out its mission of honoring children and youth through comprehensive initiatives. As of 2021, Greentrike serves as the Out-of-School Time Intermediary (OSTI) to deliver Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) across Pierce County.
