Would you like to get up close and personal with our Alpacas, the Duck Gang, the big and little Pigs, Goats, Turkeys, Chickens and more?

Our first step is on on-site orientation and hands-on training so that you can meet the animals and get a sense for what you can offer the sanctuary and what this opportunity can offer you.

Position: Helping Hands Animal Volunteer (no animal handling experience required)

Location: At the GLR location in Longmont, CO.

Job Type: Volunteer. Minimum of 1 shift per week (2-3 hours) and 6 months commitment. Recurring commitment encouraged. It helps tremendously when our Helping Hands Volunteers are able to contribute on a recurring basis!

Description:

Our Helping Hands Volunteers are the heart and soul of the GLR. Our animals need your love, care and support and fulfilling our mission is only made possible with your help. The more volunteers we have, the more animals that can be rescued and given refuge. Helping Hands Volunteers are responsible for the feeding, health and wellbeing of our animal residents. We need approximately two to four volunteers each shift to assist with animal care-related tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Available shifts are 9 am -12 pm (winter; 8-11am summer) and 4-6pm on a daily basis.
  • Species appropriate feeding of our beloved animals.
  • Cleaning and filling water dishes and troughs.
  • Mucking barns and coops.
  • Pasture cleaning.
  • Restocking hay/straw/shavings.
  • Washing dishes, chopping produce and other kitchen tasks.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of and dedication to fulfilling the GLR’s mission and ethics.
  • No animal experience required.
  • Age Requirement: 18+ years old. Volunteers ages 12-17 will be considered if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • All Helping Hands Volunteers are required to attend an orientation before volunteering at the GLR.
