The Master Watershed Steward (MWS) Program is a long-term volunteer certification program that empowers volunteers to make positive environmental changes in their community.

Penn State Extension in Cumberland County is currently recruiting community volunteers with an interest in water quality and natural resource conservation. The volunteers will engage in a 40-hour training program in classroom and hands-on settings. Topics include environmental/natural sciences, stewardship, and education. Stewards then engage in volunteer watershed/water quality education, research, and storm water and habitat restoration projects throughout the county. There is a 50-hour volunteer commitment the first year. To maintain certification for subsequent years, 10 hours of continuing education and 20 hours of volunteer service are required.

A new class will be trained in Spring 2020. To learn more, information sessions for prospective Stewards are being held on January 14 and 28, 2020,7:00 pm at 310 Allen Road, Carlisle. Contact Holly Smith at hps5293@psu.edu to register.
