Volunteer Requirements:

The outpatient dietitian position requires at minimum a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, dietetics or health related field, a completed a CADE approved dietetic internship and passing of the Registration Examination for Dietitians. The position requires the dietitian to be credentialed in good standing with the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration, and obtain licensure in the state of Georgia to practice nutrition for Pea Pod Nutrition and Lactation Support. Upon obtaining licensure, the RD must complete 75 CEU per 5 year period in accordance with Commission of Dietetic Registration standards for competency requirements. 1 year experience in an inpatient our outpatient clinic setting preferred, new graduates will be considered.

Job Description:

The outpatient dietitian will volunteer with Pea Pod Nutrition and Lactation Supports patients and other members of the community to improve their health and well-being. The outpatient dietitian will provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) counseling to individuals and groups. Primary areas of focus will be family nutrition, pediatric nutrition and women’s health nutrition. This entails creating nutrition care plans using the Nutrition Care Process to specify diet plans or goals for patients with varying medical diagnosis such as diabetes, failure to thrive/abnormal weight gain, metabolic syndrome, heart disease and more. The outpatient dietitian may counsel individual patients or their families in a private or group setting. Other responsibilities may include: nutrition research and presentations, wellness classes, creating and maintaining nutrition education materials, authoring nutrition department policies and procedures, and other responsibilities as the job and need for nutrition expertise evolves in this practice setting.

Able to:

Counsel /teach one on one and in group settings

Work independently

Give presentations and speak publicly regarding nutrition/health topics

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work requires extensive periods of talking, walking, standing, bending, pushing and some lifting of equipment.

Work is performed in outpatient setting at the Decatur office.

Exposure to infections and contagious disease is possible.

Protective measures are followed and protective clothing is work as directed by the established policy.

Candidate must be available for some weekends, evenings and holidays.

Language: Preferred Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Preferred: Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records, Additional certifications in wellness/fitness specialties,

Knowledge of: Internet research, Spreadsheet, Presentation or Publication software such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Nutrition Analysis and Word Processing,

Knowledge of behavioral change theories such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, etc.

At Pea Pod we believe that supporting and educating mothers how to optimally nourish themselves and their children is the cornerstone to a healthy community. Our commitment to this belief is the foundation of the non-profit arm of our organization, the Pea Pod Assistance Program (PPAP), which provides low-cost and/or free nutrition and lactation education and support to low-income women and children.
