Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the St. Augustine Humane Society! We want every pet to have the chance to live happy, healthy lives with their loving families. Our programs and resources are designed to fight against the most common reasons pets are relinquished to shelters. By providing these lifesaving resources to the community, we are able to help reduce the need for animals to enter shelters, helping end needless euthanasia.

What is the Setup/Takedown Volunteer position?

The Setup/Takedown Volunteer is an important part of our Dog Training classes. Because behavioral issues are one of the main reasons why pets are relinquished to animal shelters, we are proud to offer dog training classes to the community. These classes provide important training techniques and bonding opportunities to families and their pets. The Setup/Takedown Volunteer helps setup and takedown the training equipment for the classes.

Do I have the qualifications needed to become a Setup/Takedown Volunteer?

The best volunteers are concerned for the wellbeing of animals and want to ensure that every pet stays with their loving families instead of being relinquished to an animal shelter. If you are able to take direction well, lift and move equipment of various sizes, and help maintain a positive and professional atmosphere, you will be an effective member of the Dog Training Program.

How much time must I commit as a Setup/Takedown Volunteer?

Each Dog Training class is seven weeks long. The first class is a "humans only" class where participants learn about proper training techniques and the force-free, fear-free methods. The remaining six classes are held at the St. Augustine Humane Society on Saturday mornings as determined by the certified Dog Trainer. Volunteers are expected to attend each class, staying an hour before and after for setup and takedown.

What are the responsibilities of the Setup/Takedown Volunteer?

  • Assist with setup and takedown of training equipment
  • Assist Dog Trainer with tasks as requested
  • Maintain a positive and professional atmosphere
  • Must sign Volunteer Agreement and Waiver before volunteering
  • Must wear tennis shoes and modest clothing without tears or offensive content
