Compassionate Artists bring arts & crafts workshops to financially-disadvantaged seniors living at residential care facilities. We work with all levels and disabilities. Our workshops are lead by Andrea Salisbury, an expert in art and senior brain health. We currently serve facilities in the Downey and Bellflower area but will be expanding to Long Beach in the near future. If you would like to be a workshop leader opportunities may be available after your have serve as an assistant.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have a love for seniors. This position requires great patience with those in the program. Many of our participants need one-on-one assistance for a variety of reasons. You should enjoy arts & crafts. but don't have to be an expert. The willingness to help is enough. You should be willing to complete a volunteer application, provide personal references, attend an orientation and undergo a possible background check,

If you are habitually late this opportunity is not for you! We stick to a very strict schedule and things must start on time.

Compassionate Artists understands the importance of the Arts throughout our lifetime. We understand that participation in the arts can improve cognitive function and contribute to emotional, psychological and physical health.

Description

We visit low income senior facilities and present music, theatre & dance performances. We also provide a variety of hands on activities including arts and crafts, movement, sing-a-longs, and readers theatre. We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to share their gifts with others.

  • Orientation or Training
  • A minimum of 2 hours a month, plus training & orientation. You should be able to commit to the same time monthly. (first Friday, third Wednesday, etc.)
  • You must have reliable transportation and be able to follow directions.
