The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is a low barrier residential shelter with a focus on housing, emergency services, and diversion. We help families and individuals return to stable, permanent homes as quickly as possible. Each day we serve more than 500 men, women and children through our residential programs, as well as more than 100 unsheltered individuals through our community initiatives.

Title: Guest Services Front Desk

Shift Availability: Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm

Description of Duties:

· Represent the Coalition for the Homeless as the first impression of the agency to all visitors and guests.

· Provide appropriate assistance and/or information to guests and visitors.

· Greet all persons as they enter the building in a professional manner.

· Screen all individuals requiring access beyond the lobby and monitor badges for Coalition guests.

· Answer phones and route them to the proper individual and take messages when necessary.

· Service our guests’ needs by providing access to hygiene items, cleaning supplies and more.

· Address crisis situations if needed and contact appropriate support such as staff, EMT or law enforcement.

· Perform light housekeeping in order to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Title: Guest Support Services

Shift Availability: Various (24/7)

Description of Duties:

· Service our guests’ needs by providing access to hygiene items, cleaning supplies and more.

· Assist inside the dining room during meal periods (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

· Conduct regular rounds as assigned and maintain radio communications at all times.

· Perform routine room and locker checks.

· Responsible for the cleaning of bed areas/rooms to prepare for new intakes.

· Address crisis situations if needed and contact appropriate support such as staff, EMT or law enforcement.

· Coordinate with guests to accomplish special projects, chores and facility upkeep.

· Complete housekeeping duties in order to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

· Requires the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and consistently stand, bend and crouch.


Title: Shelter Intake Assistance

Shift Availability: Monday-Friday between 8am and 4pm

Description of Duties:

· Collaborate with the Intake Department to ensure a smooth transition for new guests into the shelter.

· Assist with various segments of the intake process including, but not limited, laundering guest’s clothing and ensuring guest is provided a shower.

· Guide new guests to their assigned dormitory and bed.

· Lead tours and orientation of the facility for all new guests.

· Provide new guests with hygiene items, clothing, bed linens, and other needs, as available.

· Assist with cleaning bed areas/rooms to prepare for new intakes.

  • Requires a large amount of walking throughout the campus.

Title: Environmental Services Assistance

Shift Availability: Monday-Friday between 8am and 3pm

Description of Duties:

· Work with staff to maintain overall cleanliness and sanitation of the campus.

· Assist with the cleaning and/or sanitizing of facility bathrooms, common areas and office spaces.

· Maintain cleaning supplies at stations Notify staff when supply inventory is getting low.

· Obey all safety rules during the course of duty. Employ safe practices when using chemicals, ladders or other possible hazards.

  • Must possess ability to stand, stretch, crouch, squat and bend for long periods of time.

Title: Food Services Assistance

Shift Availability: Monday-Friday between 11am and 8pm

Description of Duties:

· Provide support in various capacities to both staff and volunteers working in the Food Services department.

· Support staff and volunteers in the preparation and service of meals.

· Wash pots, pans, meal trays and any other relevant items, utilizing the automatic dish machine and three compartment sink.

· Cleaning (sweeping, mopping, etc.) of the Dining Room and Kitchen.

· Receive and properly store food donations. Provide a receipt and thank donor for their donation.

· Maintain food service areas to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, organization and safe food storage

· Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. and consistently stand, bend and crouch.

The Coalition for the Homeless provides the necessary training for each volunteer position. Just last year, 1,186 caring adult volunteers gave 438,683 hours of service. That is more than $9.5 million dollars worth of volunteer service being poured back into our communities.

Previously known as Florida Senior Programs, VCI has been the sponsoring agency for the REtired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Foster Grandparent Programs since 1977. Our 36 year presence has proven our aptitude for providing meaningful and impactful volunteer experiences.

VCI provides membership benefits and support to volunteers aged 55+, at no cost to the volunteers or their volunteer stations.
