Aggregate Space Gallery (ASG) is an artist-run, nonprofit exhibition space in Oakland, making
immersive conceptual art experiences accessible to our community through exhibitions, films,
lectures, and performances.
We are dedicated to the exploration and presentation of innovative sculptural and new
media works by regional artists and thinkers. We envision an Oakland where a diverse
community of artists can make and experience art in a safe space with access to production
tools and hands-on guidance, creating work that fuels critical dialogue in a time when it is

The Role:
Aggregate Space Gallery (ASG) is currently accepting applications for a Curatorial Fellowship
position for March 2020.
About the Fellowship:
A fellowship at ASG offers hands-on experience working within a lively community of visual
artists and intellectuals near and around our downtown Oakland gallery. ASG’s mission is to
make immersive conceptual art experiences accessible to our community. We are dedicated
to sculptural and new media video works by Bay Area artists and provide extensive in-house
resources and expertise to create and promote engaging, unparalleled projects.
The Curatorial Fellow will support running the gallery for 5-10 hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and
Saturdays in Oakland during their 7-month fellowship program. Although this position is unpaid,
fellows completing 100 hours of gallery support will be given the opportunity to independently
curate one of the eight yearly shows at Aggregate Space Gallery between August-September
2020. As a curator, you will drive the direction and execution of the exhibition, with guided
support and advice from ASG leaders, in addition to resources and equipment such as
projections, monitors, sound equipment, vinyl, printed exhibition cards and more.
Time Commitment:
This fellowship will occur over 7 months during March - September 2020.
At a minimum, this role requires supporting the gallery 5-10 hours a week during gallery hours
and special events. The gallery is open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12:45-5:00
pm. Special events include opening receptions (usually in the evenings), First Fridays (6-10 pm),
Second Saturday Artist Talks (10:30 am-12:30 pm).

Responsibilities:
● Converse with the public enthusiastically about ASG exhibitions
● Act as a professional representative of the institution
● Meet with exhibiting artists
● Attend Openings, First Friday events, and Second Saturday Artist talks
● Turn exhibitions off and on during gallery opening and closing times
● Help keep the artist and attendee database up to date
● Author and edit exhibition materials for Mailchimp, and press outreach
● Prepare major press outreach to promote exhibitions and special events
● Encourage consistent Social Media messaging, working closely with the
communications team
● Post exhibitions and events on local websites
● Open and close gallery on agreed-upon times, usually 12:30- 5:15 pm
● Count visitors to monitor capacity limits

Requirements:
● A Master degree, and a background in art, film and/or art history (MFA and Curatorial
Studies will be a plus)
● Desire to work with the public and learn the ins and outs of nonprofit management
● Experience with both Mac OSX and Windows 10 operating systems
● Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite programs
● Basic knowledge of MailChimp, Google Apps, and Salesforce
● Photography, videography, graphic and web design skills are a huge plus
● A sincere interest in and/or experience working with nonprofit arts organizations
● Excellent oral and verbal communication skills
● A passion and understanding of contemporary art
● Awareness of local art events and communities
● Flexible availability, with at least 5-10 hours/week on Fridays and Saturdays. Some
evening hours are required to cover events and gallery openings.

ASG is a charitable, artist-run exhibition and performance space in West Oakland that prioritizes the exhibition of artwork that generally can’t be seen elsewhere - our mantra is "Install the Unimaginable." We provide extensive in-house resources and expertise that enable artists to create and promote intellectually engaging and immersive projects. We also strive to provide every artwork installed in ASG with a museum-quality environment; our exhibition space is impressive and meticulously maintained.
