Aggregate Space Gallery (ASG) is an artist-run, nonprofit exhibition space in Oakland, making
immersive conceptual art experiences accessible to our community through exhibitions, films,
lectures, and performances.
We are dedicated to the exploration and presentation of innovative sculptural and new
media works by regional artists and thinkers. We envision an Oakland where a diverse
community of artists can make and experience art in a safe space with access to production

Project Need
Aggregate Space Gallery (ASG) is currently accepting applications for a non-paid intern to
assist with our 7th Annual International Short Film Festival.
About the Role:
An internship at ASG offers hands-on experience working within a lively community of visual
artists and intellectuals near and around our downtown Oakland gallery. ASG’s mission is to
make immersive conceptual art experiences accessible to our community. We are dedicated
to sculptural and new media video works by Bay Area artists and provide extensive in-house
resources and expertise to create and promote engaging, unparalleled projects.
The Gallery Intern will assist with producing and promoting ASG’s 7th Annual International Short
Film Festival, one of our eight annual exhibitions at ASG. As the exhibitions intern, you will be
responsible for creating and monitoring the online submission process, corresponding with
applicants and award winners, and help run the gallery on select Thursdays, Fridays and
Saturdays in Oakland for 4 months.
Although this is an unpaid position, this is an opportunity for a self-motivated individual to take
the reins on an interesting project, think creatively to help shape the future of ASG, and have
fun doing it. You will receive a well-rounded experience working in a nationally recognized
institution as well as gain an opportunity to sharpen your communication skills and literacy with
tools used in non-profits. This role is ideal for someone looking to get experience in the arts and
nonprofits. At the end of a successful internship, our staff will be happy to provide a written
reference supporting your future.
Time Commitment:
At a minimum, 4-6 months, 10-15 hours a week during Office hours (Tuesdays-Saturdays
10:00am-6:30pm) or gallery hours. The gallery is open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from
12:45-5:00 pm. Special events include opening receptions (usually in the evenings), First Fridays
(6-10 pm), Second Saturday Artist Talks (10:30 am-12:30 pm).
*The Spring Fundraiser is required for all staff, interns, and volunteers. Date: March 20, 2020
*This role requires in-person attendance at least 1 day a week.
Responsibilities:
● Be present while at the gallery to answer visitor questions
● General administrative duties such as database upkeep
● Marketing and promotional activities for the video open call
● Gathering and organizing open call submission data (Bios, CVs and video files)
● Curatorial support during the jury process
● Social media support for the gallery

● Minor cleaning and vacuuming before and after events
● Count visitors to ensure we aren’t overcapacity
● Congenial attitude, act as a representative of the institution
Requirements:
● A background in art, film and/or art history (Master of Fine Arts or multimedia and film
major studies is a plus)
● A sincere interest in and/or experience working with non-profit art organizations
● Passion for and understanding of contemporary art, particularly film and video,
site-specific installations, new media work, and experimental video
● Excellent coordination and communication skills
● Experience with Mac OS and Windows 10 operating systems
● Photography, videography, graphic and web design skills are a huge plus
● Flexible availability, with at least 10 hours/week on Fridays and Saturdays. Some evening
hours are required to cover events and gallery openings.

We provide extensive in-house resources and expertise that enable artists to create and promote intellectually engaging and immersive projects. We also strive to provide every artwork installed in ASG with a museum-quality environment; our exhibition space is impressive and meticulously maintained.
