ORGANIZATION: Generation Hope

  • 1 person is interested

Generation Hope is looking for a professional videographer to help create a video for training for our childcare volunteer team. We are open to a time frame that works with the volunteer videographer.

Generation Hope is the only community-based nonprofit organization in the DMV region focused on college completion and early childhood success for two populations that are dismissed regarding their potential and dreams for the future, and we are a rarity across the United States. Founded in 2010, Generation Hope selects teen mothers and teen fathers who have displayed academic achievement and a desire to go to college to become Scholars in the Generation Hope Scholar Program. Teen parents are often dismissed by school officials and others when it comes to their potential to pursue higher education. Generation Hope presents college-readiness workshops in the community throughout the year to identify and recruit promising students to our program. Once accepted, Generation Hope provides each Scholar with three supports that we believe increase the likelihood that they will obtain their college degree; up to $2,400 per year in tuition assistance, one-on-one mentoring, and case management. Additionally, Scholars receive an increased network of support from the extended family that the program provides to them and to their young children. This support stays with Scholars until they earn their two or four-year degree.

If you are interested, please contact Volunteer & Outreach Associate, Michelle Avelino at michelle@supportgenerationhope.org or 202-656-9539.

Thank you!

About Generation Hope

Location:

1401 Okie Street NE, Suite 300, WASHINGTON, DC 20002, US

Mission Statement

Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization that matches sponsors with teen parents who are attending college and are in need of financial and emotional support. Based on the belief that education is vital to success, its purposes are to give young parents and their children a support system as they pursue academic excellence, to provide a direct-support experience for sponsoring organizations and individuals, and to create a new generation of ambitious and successful families.

Description

This one-of-a-kind program, started by a former teen mother who wanted to see more teen parents beat the odds, matches teen parents (Scholars) who are attending college in the Washington, D.C. metro area with individuals, organizations, and local businesses (Sponsors) to participate in a mentoring relationship that includes emotional and financial support. This is a multi-year commitment, lasting until the Scholar receives their college degree.

We believe education is the best promise for teen parents to achieve stable and successful futures and consistent financial and emotional support increases the likelihood that they will graduate. When teen mothers and fathers earn college degrees, their children are less likely to live in poverty, and our communities are strengthened.
