Do you like art in public spaces? Our LoveDTSJ placemaking meetups utilize inexpensive and quick methods to show love to our vacant buildings, empty lots and locations under development. For this meetup, we will be asking volunteers to follow design prompts to install fence-cups in a pattern on chain link fences. Help SJDA add a little bit of color to the chain link fence at the defunct Camera 12 theater in downtown San Jose. Plan to meet other folks who are interested in enlivening downtown. Have some coffee, hot cocoa and bagels as you help us install fence-cup hearts onto the chain link fence!
A little love for Camera 12...
Since shuttering its doors in the fall of 2016, Downtown San Jose is eagerly waiting to see what will happen with the vacant Camera 12 movie theater. The theater sits on a well-traveled downtown paseo, Paseo de San Antonio, that acts as a major thoroughfare between San Jose State University and the "Downtown for the Holidays" activations (Christmas in the Park and the Downtown Ice.) The current state of the theater at the street level feels unloved, as new and exciting neighboring businesses open doors and welcome the crowds of people coming to downtown San Jose over the holidays.
