SUMMARY
An Educational Programs Volunteer will support the museum staff and other volunteers during school tours
and special events. They will also work closely with the Museum Curator- Education and Public Programming
in the planning and execution of various museum events and educational programming.

TIME COMMITMENT
Educational Programs Volunteers are expected to volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts each month. The museum
requires a minimum 3-hour shift for volunteering. Times of shifts will coincide with the times needed to
support tours and events - school tours and events occur both in the day-time and during the evenings, so
shifts will vary between 8 am and 8 pm. The schedule of events will be provided well in advance so that
the volunteer can make arrangements to attend. The most heavily needed days of availability are
Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Lead tours of the museum. This includes playing games and independently managing groups of
visitors.
● Assist in public programming planning and execution. This can include participating in skits, craft making, explaining instructions to visitors and an
opportunity to share your ideas on how to improve our visitor experience.
● Work closely with children and adults of all ages.
● Greet visitors and answer questions.
● Help keep visitors, artifacts, and the buildings safe.
● Set up and take down of event materials and props.

REQUIREMENTS
● Applicant should be 16 years of age or older.
● Must pass a background check (18 and over).
● Must be able to participate in at least two events per month.
● Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
● Must be able to climb stairs and bend down repetitively for certain activities.
● Attention to detail and organization skills.
● Ability to receive and send email, the primary form of communication between staff and volunteers.
● Reliable transportation.
● Desire to work with the public and children.
● Ability to work as a team or independently.
● Ability to follow verbal directions and to read and follow written procedural manuals.
● Ability to read audiences and adjust tours or activities to specific guests (ages, interests, and reasons
for visiting).
● Willingness to follow museum best practices and take direction from museum staff.
● Agree to follow the policies and procedures of the City and County of Broomfield and the Broomfield
Depot Museum.
