The plants and animals at Bunker Hill North Flatwoods need your help! Join an inspiring movement of volunteers gathering to care for this wet woodland filled with towering, columnar pin oaks. Learn what it takes to help nature thrive in our treasured forest preserves and to make our preserves safe and healthy for people and creatures of all ages to enjoy. Join us once a year, once a month or once a week! We pick up litter, cut down invasive species of trees, pull weeds, collect seeds from native plants, and spread those seeds to restore life to the prairie and woodlands that surround the river.
No experience necessary, and volunteers of all ages are welcome, although minors under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult and all minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Education and training opportunities are abundant for those who want a deeper experience.
Look for yellow "volunteer" signs in the parking lot to find the precise meeting spot. Dress for being outside! Wear clothing that can get dirty and sturdy close toed shoes, no matter what the weather. Bring your own water bottle. Snacks, water, tools, safety equipment, and instruction will be provided.
