Soccer Without Borders (SWB) is non-profit organization that works alongside newcomer youth. As an organization SWB uses soccer as a vehicle for change to help create a safe space where children of all backgrounds can heal, grow, build confidence in themselves and in each other as a community.
Mentors who serve as drivers help solve one of SWB biggest needs! Many of the participants in our program rely on our transportation to attend the majority of SWB programming. Having a reliable adult who they can get to know helps us increase attendance rates, build strong relationships between volunteers and participants as well as support our community development. SWB mentor drivers get to know participants while they travel back home after practice ! Being a driver is a great way to get to know the youth in our program while fulfilling one of the most pressing needs.
You will receive a orientation on what to expect and how to best interact with youth. Every week prior to travel, volunteers will meet with the program coordinators for 15 minutes to get tips on how to best engage with youth and how to make the most out of your experience.
Timeline:
- Wednesdays 5:15-6:30 pm.
- 5:15-5:30: Meet with volunteer coordinator/get to know youth
- 5:30-6:30: Drive participant home after practice
**This position is for you if you are interested in getting involved long term mentor but cannot commit to the two hours a week**

Mission Statement
Soccer Without Borders Seattle uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing newcomer immigrant, refugee and aslyee youth a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal success.
Description
The soccer field is one of few places where newcomer youth immediately feel confident, counted, and like they can express themselves and contribute. When youth first come to the U.S., most feel the opposite. They are overwhelmed by what they don’t know, and feel helpless and alone in almost every aspect of life. Too often, these youth turn to unhealthy behaviors, rejecting that which makes them feel incompetent. Soccer can reach these young people in a way that no other activity can. When intentionally designed, soccer can be a powerful interpersonal learning environment that provides the skills and supports that young people need to reach their full potential.
Youth enter Soccer Without Borders at varying levels of soccer ability, English ability, and comfort in their communities; all are welcome and flexibility and innovation are key. Our core, team-based program offers soccer and off field activities for more than 35 weeks per year, 6-12 hours per week to middle and high school-aged participants. This creates a feeling that goes beyond team: SWB becomes family.
In March 2018, Soccer Without Borders will be launching it's first program in Seattle in partnership with the Seattle World School. To support with the successful launch of this program, we are seeking volunteers in the following areas:
-Volunteer Assistant Soccer Coaches
-Special Event Volunteers
-Volunteer Drivers to support transporting youth to games and special events
-Advisory Board members
