Adult Learner Services of Greater Derry is seeking volunteer tutors to work with our students to help them prepare for their high school equivalency exam, improve their skills in English as second language learners, or improve their literacy skills. Ongoing training is offered by the coordinator of the program, and an hour and a half per week time commitment is required on the part of the volunteer. Tutors and learners meet in public places such as local libraries. Tutors are required to report hours to the coordinator on a monthly basis. This volunteer opportunity can be a very rewarding way to give back to your local community.

Location:

Mission Statement

We connect learners in Derry, NH and surrounding communities with local volunteer tutors to help them improve their skills in several key areas. Some of our students are looking to prepare to take their HISET (high school equivalency exam), others are looking to improve their overall level of literacy, and some are second language learners who need to improve their speaking, writing, or listening skills in English. We seek to break down barriers and empower learners to achieve their personal, academic, or work-related goals.

Description

We are a part of Adult Education in Derry, working through the School Administrative Unit. Every region of New Hampshire has its own Adult Learner Services Program that seeks to serve learners in their surrounding communities. Students can be co-registered in adult education or ESL classes at the same time as participating in our program with a one-on-one tutor. Access to a knowledgeable tutor can be a powerful tool on a student's path towards meeting their academic and personal goals.
