Our non-profit has been providing residential and day services to individuals with autism and developmental disabilities for almost 20 years. We have facilities in Hillsborough and Epping, NH. We are a $3M+ 501(c)3 corporation serving 40 individuals. We are growing fast and could double in size as we add residential units at our Epping facility.

Farmstead of New England uses a therapeutic farm-based environment to enhance the lives of our clients by giving them a low-key rural atmosphere to learn and grow. When an individual chooses to live in one of our private apartments, we are telling them that we want this to be their home. While medicare funds the housing and care for the individuals, what we add to enhance their lives must be financed through fundraising. The things that we need to support through fundraising include facility maintenance, farming costs, and other capital expenses.

The Board of Directors is looking for individuals to add to our team with expertise in fundraising. We currently run a couple of very successful events, but that is not going to pay the bills. We have a good donor base, but we need to grow it and try to bring in larger donors. We are using the standard methods of non-profit fundraising, which involves Stewardship and Cultivation. We currently have no fundraising expertise.

We would be looking for you to work with other members of our team who have been doing development as a grassroots effort. Individuals interested in helping us can join as a board member or as a non-voting advisor to the board. You would need to commit to a meeting a month with either a committee or the board. Occasionally, there may be an additional strategic planning meeting. We use both face-to-face meetings and conference call meetings to be as flexible as possible.

Let us know if you are interested in helping, and we can provide more information and answer your questions.

Mission Statement

Farmsteads of New England, Inc. (FNE) is dedicated to empowering individuals who have autism, developmental disabilities and others with varying abilities to pursue their chosen path to live a meaningful and satisfying life by providing transitional and long-term supports and services in a rural environment that fosters growth, interdependence and self-confidence

Description

FNE currently provides services in 2 locations; Hillsborough, NH and our newest facility Epping, NH. The Hillsborough location provides residential and day services while Epping currently provides only day services. We are in the planning stages for our residential units in Epping. We provide services and supports to 38 individuals and employ 80 staff. The individuals we provide services to have needs that range from those who require 24x7 support to those who only require support as a group. We are currently not a full capacity in our day program in Epping due to lack of staff. Our clients (called our farmers), spend their day in a home style atmosphere at the farm and participate in work, community and recreational activities. They show for their groceries, produce all their own meals and clean the farmhouse. Our farmers work the garden and care for the animals at the farm. The produce they grow is sold from an onsite farm stand as well as to area businesses and the elderly. In Hillsborough we have a mobile farm stand that allows our farmers, with their coaches, to bring the produce, eggs and other items to nursing and assisted living homes to allow the residence to purchase fresh items without having to leave their homes. Our fundraising helps to support the upkeep of the farming environment and enhance the daily life and recreational activities of our farmers. Our percentage of proceeds from fundraising that go directly to supporting our farmers is above 90%. While we target for 100%, unexpected expenses require use of funds from fundraising.
