Volunteers are needed to help with setup, serving, decorating, and cleaning-up at the The Nutshell! production. You will have the opportunity to attend The Nutshell! after volunteering. The Nutshell! Details Here
The Nutshell! is an immersive adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s "Nutcracker" where everybody dances!
Patrons and performers first gather to mingle at a high-brow holiday party for entertainment, caroling and
treats. Next, kids are drafted into the ranks of mice and soldiers and march out for drills while the adults
enjoy a grand waltz lesson. We reconvene to cheer the melee of mice and soldiers and wonder as a
blanket of cool Bay Fog boureés across the stage. Finally, dancers and revelers enter the Land of Sweets
for a celebration that San Francisco Ballet’s Sugar Plum Fairy would wave her wand to come see!

Mission Statement
The mission of Mannakin Theater and Dance is to actively broaden the reach of the arts by inviting new people to learn in the STUDIO, to watch from the SEATS, and to perform on the STAGE.
Description
Based in San Francisco and founded in 2013 by Nathan Cottam, Mannakin Theater and Dance (MTD) has produced professional performances in the SF War Memorial and Performing Arts Center, Palace of the Legion of Honor, Piedmont Center for the Arts and on tours to Utah and the Republic of Serbia. The company has been invited to perform in multiple domestic and international dance festivals, including the Sterijino Pozorje Drama and Arts Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia.
In 2018, MTD started a program in East Palo Alto, CA to bring ballet instruction to youth of this historically underserved community. The success of this program led to the institution of En Avant Ballet School, the only classical ballet program in East Palo Alto, CA. The demographics of the school are 80% Latin American and 20% Pacific Islander, all low income families. These students have been on stage with MTD at the SF War Memorial Center and the Yerba Buena Main Stage.
